10–9! Happy Messenger Appreciation Day!
Bicycle messengers are, for many of us who love cycling, part of our culture. You’ve either been one, know one, or crossed paths with these incredible individuals working quietly to carry anything you can imagine, as long as it fits in a bag or on a cargo bike.
October 9th is an extra opportunity to say thank you to bike messengers and couriers around the world. From the most critical delivery to a simple bouquet of flowers, they’re the ones out there braving traffic, weather, and everything in between to get things where they need to go, as fast as they can.
They’re also the ones who have been leading the way for cleaner cities, keeping countless trucks out of our urban centers. And since 10-9 is radio code for “please say again,” it feels only right to use this date to remind everyone just how meaningful this day is.
To all of you out there: You’re the definition of what it means to be a real one.
Keep on spinning,
-Paul
