Bike Check: Logan’s Custom Scarab Páramo
When you think about framebuilding, Colombia isn’t exactly the first place your mind wanders to. But Scarab has been crafting beautiful bikes since 2019, and today we’re looking at Logan’s personal build, dressed in the truly stunning “Tropical Cliché” paint job.
I usually don’t start with the paint, but how could I not?! Scarab has over 20 paint schemes, ranging from solid colors to wild, intricate patterns like this one. For the “Tropical Cliché,” which captures Colombia’s biodiversity through various plants and animals with tons of little hidden details, the customer can choose almost any color they want for the base coat, as well as for the leaves that make up the template. And with that level of customization, it’s pretty much guaranteed that no two Scarabs are ever the same.
When it comes to Scarab’s lineup, the Páramo is their dedicated gravel bike, built from a mix of Columbus Life and Spirit tubing. Tire clearance ranges from 48 to 55 mm depending on whether you choose the Standard, Integrated, or Ultra variant.
The new Páramo Integrated, launched earlier this year, has no trouble clearing these 50 mm Schwalbe G1R PROsm and that gives Logan the freedom to ride everything from classic gravel to much chunkier trails. Even as far as taking it, CX racing this fall.

The drivetrain is a classic choice with this SRAM Red XPLR groupset, but it’s quickly overshadowed by the sheer number of small details on this bike. After our interview, I was surprised to see a chain peg on a custom 2025 frame, as I thought nobody really added those anymore. But Logan explained that even in an era where most bikes aren’t built with internal routing for mechanical groupsets, the chain peg still comes standard on every Scarab. I also had to ask him how he manages to keep his bar tape that white. The answer: he doesn’t… Not for long, at least. But I have to admit, it looks perfect paired with the custom-painted ENVE In-Route SES AR bar-stem combo.
Finally, two more things caught my eye on this bike. The first was the cluster of red-anodized Wolf Tooth parts throughout the build. And for that alone, Logan and everyone at Scarab have my eternal respect, as they somehow managed to make red anodizing look good again. As a long-time advocate for every anodized color except red, I have to admit: they might have changed my mind, just a little.
The second detail is this gorgeous pair of Rolf wheels, which give the bike a real CX vibe and perfectly complement the incredible craftsmanship of this Scarab.
