Important Updates and Photography Workflow
Hello everyone and welcome to a slightly different write-up than usual. If you enjoy the blog and the podcast, this is definitely something you should read to understand the work behind Slow Spin Society.
I started this blog alongside the podcast to share my adventures with more details, some guides for new riders, some cool bikes, and basically everything I find nice, interesting to share, and beneficial for our culture. If you’re like me you come to a point where you eat and breathe track bikes every day. The fixed-gear scene is growing again, no doubt about that, and it’s a personal goal to spread it even more and ensure that it is accessible to beginners.
Why only analog photography for a digital journal?
If you have visited this website before, or even my Instagram, you must know that I shoot purely on film. I’m not any kind of purist or gatekeeper when it comes to film photography. I also enjoy shooting digital, heck, I did it for years before coming back to 35mm analog photography. But for me, film just shares more of the moment, the mood, and how and why I took a particular shot. That’s what I see in film photography and that’s what I want to share here. I also like to experiment a lot by pushing and pulling film, using a different format, expired rolls, new cameras, and so on. But as you’re gonna see next week, it doesn’t always turn out well and I end up having to quickly shoot something else to make it in time for the weekly blog post. This is why I couldn’t release an article last week. Shooting on film requires me to physically develop, scan, and correct the shots, which is a very time-consuming process. This is especially true if my local lab is closed for just three days, (which is what happened last week) I can’t share a new article on Wednesday. One other important thing, since there are eight to twelve pictures in an article, and I only shoot thirty-six exposure rolls, I usually end up shooting meaningless stuff to finish my roll so that I can develop it! And that’s just too bad :(
What does all this mean for you as a reader?
Well to keep it short: One article a week is a bit much. To really take my time, develop my rolls, scan them and create content that I’m happy with and proud to share here, I’m more likely to make the write-ups a bi-weekly thing. On the other side of things, it will give me time to focus on some other plans like special SSS quality bike parts and more that you’ll find soon in the shop.
What about the podcast?
Even though the show is a huge amount of work for Fabian and I, we are super happy with every episode we put out there and even more when we get DMs and comments like: “You guys make every Monday better - already looking forward to the next one - keep up the good work”. It motivates us to continue creating fun content for everyone. You will soon find a “suggestion box” on the website to share subjects you’d like us to talk about on the podcast. As a side note, we’re also actively looking for sponsors to support the show, so we can get some bread out of this since writing, recording, editing, and communication takes up a lot of our time. (plug us with someone that is not NORDVPN or RAID SHADOW LEGENDS please.) Finally, we’re working on some different formats of content and we’d love to do a test episode this summer.
Hope you guys are happy with where SSS is going. Because we are and the isn’t anything more rewarding than all your nice comments!
