Skream Ranger
Build 21/30
Material and Manufacturing quality 7/10
Paint and Finish 7/10
Weight 7/10
I’d recommend reading this rating alongside the Micro Review I did on the Skream Ranger. The manufacturing is solid, and the frame is generally well-engineered. Don’t expect anything groundbreaking, this is one of many frames produced in China, but still, I didn’t notice any weird welds. Same goes for the paint: good overall quality, with perfectly matching shades between the frame and the carbon fork. Special motion to the paint schemes getting way better recently, making for a more “mature” bike And with the frameset coming in just under 2kg, the Ranger sits exactly where it should.
Ride 20/30
Geometry and sizing 5/10
Versatility 8/10
Handling and comfort 7/10
The geometry is good, it just doesn’t suit what most people think the Ranger is meant for. Tracklocross and tricks are probably going to be more challenging than anything else with a wheelbase that long. But if you’re after a comfortable and reliable machine to take you from A to B, then this is it. Sitting comfortably on 40c tires, the Ranger is the kind of bike you want if you’re after a more relaxed geometry you can ride all year round. It can feel a bit sluggish in tight situations, but that’s the trade-off for all that stability on the road.
Value 24/30
Price 7/10
Availability 9/10
Used Market 8/10
Available on Skream’s website for $600 with regular discounts, the Ranger remains an “affordable” option (yes, it’s 2025 and everything feels expensive). It’s also stocked by several resellers, so finding one second-hand is definitely possible, with a fairly average depreciation. Being an aluminum frame, even if it’s been used as a winter beater, oxidation isn’t much of a concern. Still, like with any second-hand purchase, I’d check for hairline cracks, especially around the crank area.
SSS Factor 6/10
The Ranger suffers from a bit of a marketing problem. It’s often advertised as a tracklocross frame because of its generous tire clearance, but in reality, it’s better understood as a solid four-season bike. With mounts for a front disc brake and fenders, the Ranger is built for year-round reliability. (No belt drive pass-through though) If you enjoy riding fixed gear or single speed but need something dependable to get you to work in any condition, this is the right choice for you.
