Coming off of being one of the winners of the builder’s award at MADE this year, Scarab Cycles just introduced Serena, a climbing-specific steel frame built one at a time in their El Retiro, Colombia workshop. Custom-drawn Columbus Spirit tubing, a machined head tube, and 3D-printed dropouts support a T47 bottom bracket and 700x32C max tire clearance. The First Series limits it to twenty-five hand-painted, rider-specific bikes from $4,850. Each is shaped by how its rider climbs.

Silca’s Protocol Tire Lineup

Silca just launched their Protocol tire lineup, bringing XC mountain bike engineering into gravel and road tires built for modern rim widths and lower pressures. The range spans three gravel tread patterns, RCG-1, RCG-3, and RCG-4, plus the high-volume RCR road tire in 29mm and 38mm widths. Carbon fiber beads replace Kevlar for a wobble-free rim fit. Each tire runs $99.

Daniel Yang of YANGMFG built two prototype gravel bikes around the 750d wheel and tire size, then raced them at the Lost and Found Gravel Grinder. Yang argues 750d might be the smarter gravel standard!
“750d, or 30.5 is really weird standard. It was created in 2020 by WTB, and made a tiny squeek before it was swallowed up by the 32in hype. However, we believe 750d could be the better standard for gravel bikes. So we sourced some tires, wheels, and built a bike to race at Lost and Found Gravel Grinder.”
