Bike Check: Corentin’s Custom Mash SSCX
The Mash SSCX is a very good frame! Featuring track dropouts, 120mm spacing, wide tire clearance, and cantilever brake mounts. Ahead of its time, this frame had only one drawback for me: the paint job wasn’t on point (for me). Some people appreciated it, but I have never been a fan. However, when Corentin showed me his repainted Mash SSCX, I must admit… I was really into it!
The paint job has been done by the good folks over at Stolen Garage, whom I featured in a recent write-up.
Capturing the essence of candy or glittery paints on camera has always been an elusive challenge for me. However, this Keirin-inspired paint job is truly of the highest quality, and with some intricately placed mirror-like decals to tie everything up nicely, I was totally into it.
Out of all the options this bikes offers you, Corentin it as an easy-to-ride single-speed, and to be honest, I would probably have done the exact same thing.
Assuring the single speed capabilities is a very loud White Industries freewheel, strapped to this pairs of perfectly matching Limited Philwood hubs… Gotta make sure these pesky pedestrians are hearing you basting through all the greenlights. Notice the little matching red accents? It's all around this bike! With components like this pair of Avid Shorty cantilevers since you need to be able to stop somehow.

For the cockpit area, we have a classic Thomson X2 stem with some SRAM S500 levers, and Salsa drops wrapped in Mash Topo bartape. It's a pleasant touch, echoing the mirror decals of the frame, and a quite comfy tape. More red accents, with this Mash Coca-Cola stem cap and spacer combo, finishing off the front of the bike very nicely.
Rolling on comfortable 42c tires, this might just be the ultimate rapid commuter setup, proving us two things: The Mash SSCX with a custom paint job is an absolute banger. And yes, you can fit 42c tires on HplusSon TB14. 👀
I told you we needed more glitter.
