Let me start with my local Shanghai homie, Breaker. An OG of the city’s fixed gear scene, who has been showing me around and taking me to some of the best spots, always riding his unmistakable Mash Parallax.
The bike definitely looks unique with a fully stripped raw frame, HED Belgium rims laced to DT Swiss hubs, a super-rare Cadence stem, and a custom SLR saddle. Every detail feels intentional, but my favorite has to be the custom Mash decal. Since he bought the bike in the Year of the Ox, Breaker asked to use this special Mash logo that Benny Gold designed years ago. With the blessing of the legendary SF crew, he had it printed as a personal mark on what he calls his “forever bike.”

I met Apple at Cirens while she was picking up her Bianchi Super Pista after a quick tune-up, since it was her first time riding it after a five-year break. And because Apple built this bike over a decade ago, it has all the hallmarks of an early-2010s fixed-gear build: a Mutant stem, a carbon front wheel, a Trigon aero seatpost, and a single front brake. Absolutely lovely to see some OG build like that from time to time.

Ray’s Stumpjumper is a perfect example of a bike that feels both functional and full of personality. This late-’80s Team version frame mixes practical upgrades with some super quirky custom details. From the extra rare Suntour U-brake and Sweet Wings cranks to the cockpit setup, it has more anodized parts than you can count and a good-looking Spin 3 spokes front wheel. Finally, a mandatory basket to get the status of “Rad commuter."
