Korean Fixed Gear Comeback, with Onstage
South Korean fixed gear culture has gone through its phases, and in 2024, here we are. Onstage (@0nstag3_) has been the leading, well-rounded fixed gear crew in Seoul in recent years. Rooted from a dozen riders meeting at the Backstage bike store, a local shop to my hometown, their ethos is to preserve and revive the glory days of Korean fixed gear culture. Each rider in the crew has their distinct color, and together they created a beautiful mosaic that is the current Onstage. Their next course of action is planning to be the crew representing South Korean fixed gear culture.
I had the opportunity to meet and ride with some of the members this week, and were able to take some pictures to showcase the intricate pieces of this brilliant patchwork. Here are some photos! Enjoy

The leader and the trick star of the group, Hyosuk, better known as Banggu, has been dreaming about this No.22 Little Wing for years. At last, here it is! Leaving him pretty much speechless, I could tell it suits him even better than it looks.

Everyone has their favourites, and for David it'll be this Mash steel in raw smoke. As his Commuter, he needed something to rely on. Built up with cult classic, trusted parts to fit the "steel is real" ethos, this Mash Steel came out flawless..
@five_set_
I have known Jungsik since middle school, and he has a special eye for cycling design. His Volume bikes Cutter tells a story of his life, laid out in his unique style. Also outfitted with a mismatched yet matching 650b front, the unique touches are prevalent everywhere.

His parallax is the definition of dedication and loyalty. This Parallax Optical is Kyunghyun's 5th Parallax. In his eyes, this is the most desirable fixed gear frameset, with its fun, tight geometry and its iconic designs. It's his perfect street machine.
@dowon_9543
It doesn’t get more unique than this. While on the hunt for a something new, Dowon came across this Orbea track frame, and drove all the way across the country to buy it and make it his trusty companion for the past 3 years. Decked out with unique bits, the frame really stands out with its singular look and details. (Sadly, he had left his nicer wheels at home.. Maybe next time!)
A last note from Paul: I personally met most of these riders while I was in Osaka last week, and I have to say I was really pleased with their vision of the culture. They truly aimed to be a beacon of fun and openness, without any limitation or gatekeeping in sight. Looking forward to seeing how the whole Onstage crew is going to do. I'll be keeping an eye on you!
