Hong Kong: The Overlooked Asian Gem
I don’t think I have spent enough time in Hong Kong! The city can very overwhelming at first, and it might be a lot to handle for some people. But the incredibly tight community I found there, and the endless possibility for photography, made me rapidly fall in love with the “Fragrant Harbour”. Traffic is fast if you decide to bike around, so I’d be extra careful whith taxis. On the other hand, said taxis are relatively cheap and easy to stop pretty much anywhere.
Bike Shops
Le Velo HK // An absolute gem of a bike shop. Le Velo is a store, but also a hangout spot for a lot of the locals. It has everything from NJS, old Mash frames, limited edition of pretty much everything, and a lot… and I mean a LOT of premium parts for Bromtons.
Monster Bike // Very high-end Roadie shop with the loudest builds you’ll see in Asia. From custom Princeton wheels with golden decals, to extra shiny Trek Madone, this is the place if you’re looking for bling!
The Wing’s Cycle // Very nice place located in one of these giant towers. One of the owner is an old pro track cyclist, and you’ll find, along with the many top-end components, a healthy amount of vintage Italian bikes.
Specialty Coffee
Wing’s Coffee and Bar // Attached to Wing’s Cycle, this bar has everything you need for your post ride break. Good coffee, great music and some old Look track frames to stare at.
Another Shot! // Located in the Lobby of yet another tower, this tiny island of peacefulness, is probably the best filter coffee I had in HK. You also need to try the waffle with Tabasco sauce!
Kurai // Kurai is the bike cafe/bar that I could only dream of creating one day. It’s nerdy, it’s funky, there is a cat, it is 100% a required stop!
Rapha Hong Kong // The Rapha in HK is still a Rapha shop like you’ll find in many other cities, but the entire area around it is filled with cool small shop, tasty treats and more great coffees.
Bound Kowloon // Bound was the highlight of my first time in HK! The staff is super friendly, and everything we had over there was delicious. Perfect place for coffee, happy hour beer or both!
