Paris: Chaos with Charm

Oh Paris! My love-hate relationship with this city will probably end up as dramatically as one of these french movies. Paris has a strong community of riders with regular rides and events, but it’s also plagued with terrible cycling infrastructures, overly aggressive traffic from cars and other bike users. It is still a beautiful city to ride around, and I’d highly encourage you to get in contact with locals to discover all the good spots.

Bike Shops

  • Mass Work // The newest bike shop around, Mass is where you want to go to meet other riders. They also organize regular events around upcoming musicians or screening of sports movies.

  • Alesia Cycles // Great little shop nooked in the 14th district. This is THE place to go if you need some custom wheels.

  • La Chouette // My favorite shop in Paris, with a friendly staff and determined to find a solution to your problem rather than just brush you off and send you to the next bike shop. You’ll also find a bunch of parts from Blue Lug and Simworks if you’re looking for those kinds of goods. I made a post about it in the early days of SSS.

  • Stolen Garage // I also made an entire article about Stolen Garage, but I’ll just say this: You simply have to go!

Specialty Coffee

  • Steel Coffe // Steel in a bike cafe, where you get a drink while browsing all the latest trendy gravel gears. Honestly, a great place with nice staff.

  • kott Cafe // Kott might be the coffee shop I spent the most time when I was living in Paris. Their coffee is excellent, and they also have a good section of pastries. Don’t mind the barista, he can be a bit intense sometimes.

  • Dreamin Man // Tiny place that easily gets crowded, but great for a break if you’re in the area. Don’t come with a group of more than 3 because there is no way you’ll find a place to sit.

  • Viahe caphe // Vietnamese-style café, owned and run by Vietnamese. Try the egg or coconut coffee for something new.
