#Ep.37 Why do we buy Thomson and Zipp? Fixed Gear influences ft. Fabian's last episode?

Shownotes

Hey everyone!

Do you ever feel like people within the fixed gear community are trying to dictate how you should ride or how you should set your bike up? Cinelli frames, Thomson stems, Omnium cranks, Zipp wheels, and so on, seem like the default option across the scene. Of course, we’re exaggerating. A bit. Anything that doesn’t fall within certain guidelines that the community at large finds acceptable is often scrutinized by people, whether at races and meet-ups or behind the safety of anonymity online. Whether it is running a brake, having regular cranks and chainring, or simply not wide enough bars, there is often something that people will criticize for not being ‘okay’.

Chances are you have experienced this and you wouldn’t be alone. Although we like to believe that we’re rebelling against and are very unlike mainstream (road) cycling,  and doing our own thing, this may not be the case in all aspects. Even within the community, there are influences that lead most of us to have nearly identical parts and narrow down options to just a few different combinations. In this episode, we talk about where influences in the fixed-gear scene are coming from, how they can affect you, how they’ve affected us, and share our thoughts on this matter.
