The Slow Spin Society Podcast Ep.9 - Innovations and Developments

Cover.jpg

Hi everyone,

Although the beauty of fixed-gear bikes and riding them can be found in their simplicity, history, and unchanging formula, for this week’s episode we discussed some recent-ish innovations in the cycling and fixed gear world. Fixed gear cycling will always be just that, however, sometimes it can be nice to see entirely new and creative takes on components and frames. Despite the track bike system being considerably less cluttered than road bikes with cassettes, derailleurs, shifters, freewheel hubs, brake cables, and so on, there is still some space to innovate in this area.

Here are some things we discussed:

However, besides innovations, the fixed gear bike scene has yet to experience some aspects of the geared world such as Press-fit bottom brackets, disc hubs, and new product refreshes by Campagnolo and Shimano. These very niche areas have yet to be filled, but perhaps in the future! (we hope)

On a more somber note, the fixed-gear freestyle (FGFS) scene has seen an unfortunate decline in frame producers over the last years. We’d love to see a return to FGFS frames, like old-school Specialized!

Have we missed some cool cycling developments? Let us know!

As always,

Stay fresh and see you next week! 🍙
