Build 21/30

Material and Manufacturing quality 8/10
Paint and Finish 6/10
Weight 7/10

With triple-butted 7005 alloy tubing, the Pre Cursa is a stiff, durable bike that’s so versatile you’ll likely never reach its limits. The welds aren’t anything fancy, but the oversized downtube gives the bike some serious punch. At 1.7 kg, it’s a relatively light frameset, though there’s room for improvement, especially since the fork, despite being carbon, still uses an aluminum steerer (though the new 2024 version with a tapered head tube now has a full-carbon fork). The stock paint options are pretty basic, but honestly, the Pre Cursa is the perfect blank canvas for a DIY funky paint job.

Ride 24/30

Geometry and sizing 9/10
Versatility 7/10
Handling and comfort 8/10

The Pre Cursa is hands down one of the best bikes you can get for this budget. Its sloping geometry makes it an excellent choice for a training bike, something to ride in dense areas, or if you haven’t seen it yet, a tracklocross machines, with the rear end accommodating up to 32c tires.

The full aluminum construction and aggressive head tube angle deliver snappy handling, making it perfect for city riding. Available in sizes 45 to 60, almost anyone can find a fit. Plus, the Alpina fork comes drilled for a front brake—handy if you want to run brakes. However, keep in mind, there’s no rear brake mount.

Used Market 10/10

If you’re in Europe, Pre Cursas are everywhere, and you can often find them for a steal on the used market. If you prefer to go new, a frameset will set you back $430, with complete bikes starting at $860. The updated version is $120 more expensive, but if it’s your first bike or just a beater, I’d stick with the basic model.
Long story short, for the level of quality you’re getting, it’s an absolute bargain.

SSS Factor 10/10

Truly a brilliant bike. The GOAT of the European market! Get one, build one, make it your own, there are infinite ways to build a Pre Cursa.
