UDG by Julian
Description: So last summer i bought myself a parallax a size smaller than the AC4 for its fork with no intend on riding it. Well one bored afternoon I decided to give it a little spin after all and really fell in love with the explosive riding characteristics of a frame that is just a couple cm’s too small. Last December my best buddy’s Alpina fork cracked and he was in sudden need of a fast daily, so I lend him the Parallax as it is his size. I pretty much immediately had an urge for an undersized track frame tho, so I checked some local marketplaces, until this UGD showed up for a very low price. Only semi convinced by the looks of the original fork (an unicrown, eww) i put in a low bet but ended up winning the auction. Even before picking up the frame i secured a new fork from another friend, made for the swiss national team track frames in the 80’s or 90’s, this would fit perfectly on the UGD which itself was a frame used by the junior national team in the early 2000’s. As we found out after putting in a new headset and said fork, it got seriously bent up during either shipping or previous velodrome use, but that’s nothing a couple beers and elbow grease couldn’t bend back (it’s still not perfect tho as we have to align the dropouts, but at least the tire no longer rubs). The fork also has less A2C while having 3mm more rake, so the wheelbase is still the same but the top tube has just a tad under a degree of downwards slope no. That results in more weight on the front end and more stable handling at higher speeds, while the entire bike still feels very ‚tight‘. I built it up with parts from the parts bin and the Teker and it really rides nice (i have put almost 500km in 4 weeks on this bike alone), especially over gravel and singletrack the more compact build comes in handy so this is where I really like to ride the UGD at the moment. It’s a fun bike, but it won’t stick around for long. Once Dolan provides their warranty I will have the parallax back, and this bike will be sold again.
