Can you feel the summer?

That’s it! This week some of us took the shorts out and got the sunscreen ready! It’s probably time to give your bike some tender loving care l after the endless winter we had ( at least in Europe) followed by the three weeks of rain and unstable weather. Even if most borders are still closed, going on a local adventure and (re)discovering some parts of your area can also be a lot of fun and the easiest way to get some kilometers in the saddle. Cycling events are also starting to slowly reappear and I can’t wait to take part in some of them! Enjoy the summer, make plans, make trips and we’re looking forward to seeing all of you outside. BUT, If you want to chill in with the air conditioning cranked up to -5 and listen to some podcast, here is what we did this week!

We talked a lot

We’re already at episode 17 and we’re still rolling great! This month we talked about how each city is so different for cycling and how half-assed cycling infrastructure is not always the best answer. We also had a blast remembering terrible trends that happened in the fixed-gear culture, and cringing over ourselves taking part in them. Episode 15 was our guest episode, and we had the pleasure to welcome Chris Namba on the show. Chris is the co-founder and co-owner of Squid Bikes, a company of passionate and super cool people, making neat bikes with amazing paint jobs! We also had an experiment with a more “history-focused” episode where we discussed everything that happened around the Hour Record and why it is standing above all the other records in cycling. Finally, we rated 10 upgrades/updates for your fixed gear bike, which we think are good ways to improve your riding experience!

Last week we also created the Suggestion Box for you to tell us what you’d like to hear us talk about in the podcast! A new trend we should be aware of, a crazy cycling event we forgot, or just a suggestion for the next episode. We are always open to new ideas and love to hear some from you all!

Prints and stickers have been well appreciated by all our top-tier Patrons! On popular demand, we also made the prints available in super high digital quality for middle-tier Patrons. If you want to get your hands on some SSS stickers, there will soon be a pack for sale on the website. But in the meantime, all our subscribers got more than 4 hours of extra content this month. We really enjoy doing the pre and after-show and even if it's mostly us talking about other bike-related stuff, we’re always down to screw around and take part in wacky topics.

Slowing down to create more

Only three articles this month? Sadly yes and if you read my “Important updates” write-up you know that writing, editing the podcast, developing SSS on social media, preparing the secret sauce, and having a life is quite challenging at the moment. With the motivation of a lot of my friends, my family, and all of you that are reading and leaving nice comments, I really want to transform Slow Spin Society from a casual thing to a casual thing with style! Yes, it’s taking  90% of my time, but I love it. Fabian is also helping me a lot outside of the podcast, and even if this is not paying any rent at the moment, we enjoy creating and sharing with you guys and girls!

Our New Instagram!

After 4 months of slacking and having literally no time for social media, we finally created the official @slowspinsociety Instagram account! It’s probably the best and easiest place to keep yourself updated on what’s happening on the blog, on the podcast, and in the shop. Did someone say shop? More on that soon!

This newsletter marks over four months of Slow Spin Society! This last month in particular has been filled with some exciting developments for the podcast and the whole SSS project. We can’t wait to share this over the coming months, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled ;-) We hope you all can go ride and enjoy summer (or winter for you southern hemisphere-ers)!

On that note, here is a last pic for May 2021, have a good weekend, stay real, and see you in July 🌵
