Side Notes: Cycling Thoughts That Don’t Fit Elsewhere

Writing for Slow Spin Society is a full-time job, no doubt about that, I’ve talked about it plenty of times across various platforms. And It’s something I truly enjoy, but over time, I’ve faced a dilemma: how to introduce content that’s somewhat related to SSS but doesn’t quite live up to the full write-ups I love doing. Still valuable information, just in a format that doesn’t fit with the rest.

So, I came up with an idea to gather the bits and pieces I’ve always wanted to share but kept pushing aside… Let’s call them Side Notes.

So here are two main things I want to introduce in said Side Notes!

The first will be a constant work in progress, but I wanted to create a personal ranking of all the track frames I’ve had the chance to own and ride. It’s a purely subjective take, but backed by a comprehensive point system. Maybe it’ll help guide your next project or purchase, or spark a debate with your friends, because let’s be honest, we’re never all going to agree on which frame is best.

Why only track frames? Sample answer; that’s where most of my experience lies, and I wanted a place to archive my impressions in a more structured way.

The second idea came from the overwhelming number of DMs I get asked, “What bike shops should I visit while I’m in [Insert city here] ?”

So, I’ve put together a solution: Mini travel guides for cities I’ve had the chance to visit multiple times. If you’re thinking,
“Wait, it’s just coffee spots and bike shops?”
Yes, exactly. It’s for a very specific crowd, and I’m totally fine with that.

Of course, you’re always welcome to message me about your adventures, but this should at least give you a solid starting point. On the other hand, if you have places I should check out the next time I’m in X or Y country, feel free to drop me an email!

I should also mention, there’s no set schedule for Side Notes. New articles will pop up whenever I feel like it, but you’ll always be notified via social media and the newsletter.

Lastly, a bit of behind-the-scenes housekeeping. I’m moving the podcast section for seasons one and two into Side Notes. This helps declutter the main menu, especially since future episodes will be featured directly on the main pages.

That’s it for today, I’ll see you in a few days for a new write-up!
