August’s Newsletter

September already!

Yep, that’s it, folks. August is now behind us and I already see some of you getting your pumpkins out. Put that down, it's too early for that stuff! It’s been a busy month for us as usual but we’re happy with the content we released. To top it all off, it’s one of those months where we ended up producing 5 episodes! Episode 26 started the month perfectly with Jackson Bradshaw talking about FGFS and his approach to the video content production side of the fixed-gear culture such as on youtube and other platforms. It’s always kinda crazy how this podcast allows us to approach and talk with people we maybe wouldn’t even had the chance to meet otherwise. Episode 27 was all about finding the right parts/frame/bike for you on the second-hand market. Avoid scammers, get great deals, and our personal experiences buying and selling used parts. We did an extra-long show to celebrate the Tokyo Olympics, finally happening one year later. This episode covers everything ranging from all the new bike tech used in the Olympics to each and every crash that happened on the track during those 6 days. Finally, towards the end the month we had tons of fun recording episodes 29 and 30 around what would be worth it or not to buy in 2021 and the little maintenance you should probably do to keep your bike and your parts for as long as possible.

Making some changes

As you may have seen just above, we’re making some tweaks to the design of the podcast. The show is growing and so are we. Listeners told us that we were becoming more and more confident in the way we’re talking and it’s true that after 30 episodes, and a consistent work and release routine we’re feeling a little bit more legitimate to do what we do. That’s why during this summer we thought about a few designs to present the podcast as something more “mature”. Don’t get us wrong, we’re still 2 very young adults having fun recording ourselves. It’s aweome, even though it may be a shit ton of work! For the countless hours we’re putting into this, we’re glad you all are enjoying it and that’s all that matters.

As I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, reaching our goal unlocked a bunch of new things for our followers.

Each month we'll be setting up two challenges. One will be fairly doable, while the other is for those who want to work a bit harder. Completing challenges will earn everyone virtual rewards such as Discord exclusives and more virtual goodies. Level 2 and 3 Patreons, on the other hand, can earn the roles along with a shout-out during the podcast and a social media plug in the show notes. Additionally, Level 2 and 3 Patreons will earn a special secret reward for every 6 challenges they complete These challenges can range from simply cycling a certain distance or elevation during a month, all the way to recording yourself trackstanding for a minute while juggling balls, so don't expect these to be too easy These are all for good fun and we will not be expecting 110% proof for most of the challenges. We just trust you to be honest.

Last week I sent a brand new batch of prints to our Patreon supporters. As far as I know, everyone is enjoying the monthly print and stickers that we’re sending. It is a small symbol from us to thank those of you financially supporting us and keeping our head out of the water while we try to make all of this work. As a reminder, you can become a Patreon supporter and have access to the extended version of the podcast and other advantages from the price of a cappuccino, all the way to 25€ where you’re the one deciding what we should talk about in the pre and aftershow. This month, every patreon member gets access to just short of four and a half hours of extra content! What are you waiting for?

Need for eye candy.

This month is full of great vibes and awesome bikes on the blog. First, you’ll find my favorite bike café in Bordeaux: Musette Bicycles and Coffee is a great pitstop if you’re in town to see some nice bikes, have a chat with the owners, and get a refreshing drink. I’ll let you discover this awesome place through this write-up but if you have the chance, go have a look yourself!

Same vibes, different era, welcome back to the 90’s, early 2000s with two beauties I had to shoot and show to the world. Clement’s Look 296 and 396 are just two beautiful pieces of carbon composite from an age where compromise was not a thing yet. It’s pure eye candy and it’s just a nice set of moody pictures to look at and dream about owning one of those one days.

As always, thanks for listening to us blabber around for 1 or 2 hours every single week. With episode 30 we're officially at the seven and half month mark! An eventful time for all of us, to say the least. We hope you all are enjoying the podcast, the new projects, and the direction the community and SSS are heading in! See you around and until next month! 😎

Here is one last picture for this month, have a great September! 🏫
